Why it is so important to keep the AR community alive, well and prosperous? Considering the future of how we're going to experience and interact online, envisioning the Web 3.0 as an XR-based Metaverse, we don't want our future built by one or two companies, but rather a global community of conscious individuals!

Established remote-assistance solutions allow remote experts to set annotations and highlights directly within the on-site user’s field of view. However, there is no shared realm of experience where both users can interact as if they were physically standing next to each other.

This talk presents an ongoing research project that aims to solve this problem by capturing and streaming the on-site user’s real 3D-environment (including persons) to create a shared sense of space. The remote expert, who uses a VR-HMD, is able to move freely within the live 3D reconstruction, whereas the on-site user is able to see him using an AR-HMD. The result is an intuitive and natural collaboration experience that solves the shortcomings of current solutions.

Virtual Manufacturing is the exercise of reproducing the physical behavior of a machine or a plant virtually, through software simulation applied to the Digital Twin. This allows engineers to integrate both mechanical design data and control software, meaning a machine can be tested entirely in the virtual world even before its construction and assembly, thus reducing the development and construction time drastically.

We needed a tool to do these activities that was totally customizable in order to integrate all the dynamics and benefits of virtualization. For this reason we developed a new software based on Unreal Engine that brings virtual manufacturing to an entire new business level.

Key benefits are:

- Development more flexible
- Photo-Realistic 3D graphics
- Advanced Human-computer interaction
- Ability to simulate a greater amount of objects
- +800% in logic calculation performance.

In Addition , our idea is to use the virtual model on the same platform to provide support for all business functions.

Description

For the past several months, DALL·E, a web-based image creation tool from OpenAI and MidJourney (both using gpt-3) have emerged as a topic of discussion for creatives. Both DALLE and MidJourney generate 2D artifacts. In her current research, Jasmine Roberts has expanded gpt-3 to create and modify 3D assets for use in augmented and virtual reality.
This is an effort to spark discussion of how we might set a course for better XR + AI model interactions. This talk is intended for those considering or in the process of implementing 3D generation systems. The principles given in this talk should lead to the development of more human-friendly tools and processes and mitigate fears surrounding displacement of creators. The audience will come away with some useful techniques to incorporate language models into their XR experiences.

The increasing popularity of XR applications is driving the media industry to explore the creation and delivery of new immersive experiences. A volumetric video consists of a sequence of frames, where each frame is a static 3D representation of a real-world object or scene capture at a different point in time.

However, such contents can consume significant bandwidth. Compression of volumetric video is required to obtain data rates and files sizes that are economically viable in the industry. Standardization is required to ensure interoperability. The Visual Volumetric Video-based Coding (V3C) standard defines a generic mechanism for coding volumetric video and can be used by applications targeting different types of volumetric content, such as point clouds, immersive video with depth or transparency of visual volumetric frames.

The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) has specified two applications that utilize V3C: Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC), and MPEG Immersive Video (MIV). This presentation provides an overview of the generic concepts of these technologies associated with the MPEG V3C system part for an efficient volumetric video-based media streaming in applications such as telelearning and XR experiences.

This is a joint presentation by KONE and Tampere University. KONE provides its customers with elevators, escalators and innovative solutions for modernization and maintenance, and is one of the global leaders in its industry. Tampere University is one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland.

In this talk we share our experiences and good practices for industry-academia collaboration gathered during a co-creation project for a VR environment. We co-created a collaborative VR environment and tools to support maintenance method development and related technical documentation creation as part of the product development process. The development was done in close industry-academia collaboration using an agile approach. Our talk aims at inspiring other industrial companies and giving insight for XR companies and academic actors.

Table stakes for the "The Metaverse" are to allow each user to be immersed into a virtual world that evolves with them. For too long this has been considered impractical due to the budget implications intrinsic in doing them manually. New advances in AI are shifting the calculus in a major way. In particular, new techniques make it possible to drastically scale up asset creation, improve runtime performance, and, most importantly, create a living world.

The technology that brought us Deepfakes is permanently reshaping the way we create content of all kinds - from movies and music to apps and websites. The idea of applying algorithms to manipulate or generate media isn't new, but several advances in computer science have brought the technology out of the halls of academia and into the hands of anyone and everyone with a desire to create. In this session, we'll explore how synthetic media and computational design are inspiring all sorts of machine-assisted creativity, how it's changing the overall creative process, and see examples of how this will bring about an explosion of immersive content that will shape the metaverse.

Doug Engelbert expressed the idea of augmenting human intellect, not just for individuals, but as a collaborative experience. We have been working on Croquet, with the goal of creating a foundation that would enable such an augmentation of our ability to create, explore, understand and solve problems collaboratively. We define the augmented conversation as follows:
1 - A discussion within a group of users that is extraordinarily enhanced with the kinds of tools and capabilities that are only available with a computer.
2 - A computer AI is a full participant in this conversation. It allows us to jointly discuss and explore complex systems, data sets, and simulations as naturally and easily as we engage today.
3 - There is a guarantee of shared truth. The simulation I see must be the exact same as what you see. Anything I do to affect the shared simulation must also be accurately shared. If this is not the case, then there is no guarantee that what you see and understand is the same as for me, so you are unable to trust that communication channel.
In the very near future, the virtual objects that will soon populate our world must be as responsive and alive as a physical object. There won't be a physical reality and a virtual or augmented reality. Soon, there will only be a seamless, multi-user reality.
