Julie Smithson leads METAVRSE, a creation platform to build the spatial web. Over the past 10+ years, Julie has led the production of several world-first interactive immersive experiences across training, marketing, retail and collaboration. Some of these novel innovations include TheMall (world’s largest virtual mall) and Meetopia (spatial collaboration platform).
Julie’s personal mission is to ‘inspire and educate people to think and act in a socially, economically and environmentally responsible way’. By leveraging the transformative power of spatial awareness & personal perseverance, Julie strives to vastly improve the way we learn, teach, and adapt to digitization through a time of exponential growth.
Julie is also a Co-Founder of XR Women, the world’s largest global community devoted to connecting, educating, empowering, and uplifting women in spatial technologies - creating space for all to be seen and heard.
Julie is the host of the fourth annual WebXR Awards (The Polys) celebrating the hard working creators of the spatial web. Julie and her team produce cutting edge awards shows featuring never-before done immersive content. This team also produces MetaTr@versal, a global tour focused on learning about best practices, ethics, standards and governance with particular focus on interoperability.
Prior to her pioneering work in spatial computing, Julie was COO & Co-Founder at SmithsonMartin, creators of the world’s first multitouch system for the music industry. Their flagship product won the coveted DJ Mag Award for Most Innovative Product in 2011.
