For nearly three decades, Lanny Smoot has continued to push the boundaries of technology to bring to life awe-inspiring, one-of-a-kind experiences. Best known for his pioneering work during his tenure at Disney, Smoot holds over 100 patents and has been instrumental in creating magical experiences for Disney theme parks, resorts, and cruise ships.
His innovations include the BB-8 drive system for the "Star Wars" movie franchise and extendable lightsabers for the "Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser" experience, interactive immersive experiences like "Where’s the Fire?" – an attraction that allowed families to compete to look through walls with a magical flashlight that provides X-ray vision, and more recently the HoloTile Floor – the world’s first multi-person, omni-directional, modular, expandable, treadmill floor.
