Description

What is the point of innovation if more than half the world’s population doesn’t have access to it? Since the beginning of time, we have used innovation and emerging technology to mimic the way we view human life. Although, we need to come up with a more efficient way of channeling that innovation towards 80% of the planet not having access to basic medical resources to keep them alive, which also means redefining medical models for telemedicine (doctor to patient communication).

As the constant advancement of technology and VR prevails, it is apparent now more than ever that there are concrete benefits towards channeling VR within the realm of healthcare, and developing a new sense of reality, with optimizing doctor-patient communication on a virtual/3D platform. Instead of relying on old forms of technology to deploy doctor to patient connection through, like facetimes, wearables or emails, Virtuary’s objective is to create a central platform for that care, much like telemedicine, except through cutting edge technologies like VR.

Riya will be talking about how to revolutionize the interface of global health, and providing healthcare for thousands of patients worldwide suffering for basic medical resources, by developing virtual hospitals, a way for VR to be integrated in the medical world.

Too often, data that can improve worker productivity is lost because it is not delivered to the right person, at the right time, in the right way. This challenge becomes more acute as the amount of data and the speed of operations increase, placing increased stress on the worker. With a heads up display, businesses have the opportunity to provide information right in the worker's line of sight in simple, easy to understand, efficient ways that reduces stress while improving productivity, efficiency, and safety. In this session, Six15 Technologies will showcase how they are solving the data problem for essential workers from the military to the warehouse, and how HUD’s make their simpler and safer.

Technologists in industries from retail, to medical technology, to gaming, to manufacturing are scrambling to keep pace in the rapidly expanding world of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR)—collectively known as XR. This rush for revolutionary technology is particularly exciting for developers who are eager to find new ways to deliver immersive experiences to end users. We are just on the cusp of a new frontier of XR applications and experiences, with limitless potential for innovation; however, significant barriers to the growth of this frontier exist. Fragmentation hurts the end user and causes confusion: “Will the next hot title come to the platform I purchase?”; “Will the next innovative controller be supported?”; “Will my platform remain relevant going forward?” Consumers are left uncertain as to what kinds of software and hardware they should invest in. This hesitancy kills consumer interest, further hindering the AR/VR industry’s ability to grow. OpenXR is the cross-platform standard for the VR and AR ecosystem, which helps applications run on a multitude of platforms, and allows hardware manufacturers to gain access to a broader range of pre-existing content. This presentation looks at what is will take for success in this new XR frontier and the role that open standards and ecosystems plays in getting software and hardware developers to common ground.

Predicting and immersing one with the future is always a challenge and a desire. The IEEE rises to that challenge based upon the work it does on multiple new and emerging technologies through serving as a catalyst for developing new innovations, products and services.
IEEE Future Directions serves as an incubator for these new initiatives. One of its focus areas, Digital Reality serves to explore and enable the coming Digital Transformation through collaboration among technologists, engineers, regulators, practitioners, and ethicists around the world. The Digital Transformation is fueled by advances in technology, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Quantum, and applications using the copious amounts of continuously generated data. By leveraging these technologies and others developed such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Digital Twins, the line between the physical world and the digital world will be increasingly less distinct, thus enabling an immersive intelligent digital world. Applications are already quickly emerging across the broad fields of education, manufacturing, medicine, entertainment, automotive, enabling the sharing of services, and more.
Emphasis will be upon presenting practical applications and its implementations of interest to attendees. Subject matter expert speakers will comment on current and past implementations.

Near-eye displays – like those in augmented, virtual, and mixed reality devices – project virtual objects and information in close proximity to the human eye, sometimes encompassing the user’s entire field of view. This proximity not only creates immersive visual experiences, but also enhances defects like poor contrast, nonuniform brightness or color, line and pixel defects, low image clarity, and image positioning issues. To accurately test the quality of displays that are viewed so near to the eye, a display measurement solution should take into account the position, limitations, and characteristics of the human eye within the unique viewing environment of an XR headset.

In this presentation, Davis Bowling from Radiant Vision Systems will describe an innovative imaging solution for near-eye display testing that replicates human vision for the most accurate evaluation of the user’s visual experience.

Topics include:

· Challenges of near-eye display measurement

· Important optical design features that allow imaging systems to replicate human vision within headsets

· Radiant’s AR/VR display measurement system and software analysis capabilities

An audience Q&A with representatives from the Radiant team will follow the presentation.

With the recent arrival of 5G and its bandwidth-widening abilities, the promise of augmented reality is here, delivering hyper-realistic and more personalized AR activations for the attractions industry.
Nexus Studios is enabling the future of attraction experiences via augmented reality. Nexus has developed the first ever “Enhanced Location” at AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys, where fans can take selfies with oversized virtual NFL players.
Imagine a life-sized Beyonce leading concert-goers through Coachella or a hyper-realistic Monet describing his paintings to you at the Museum of Modern Art. The technology Nexus has created can enable these incredible and personal experiences and entice concert-goers, museum lovers, and dedicated sports fans to immerse themselves within the experience and much more.
We’ve all seen AR at its most basic, think Pokemon Go, but Nexus has developed an AR engine that is truly next level when used in conjunction with a 5G network. Through the use of “Enhanced Locations,” the company delivers a true AR experience to sports fans that leverages volumetric content (giant 3D 'holgram'esque' digital layers) that were not previously possible.
Nexus used mapping technologies to prime the stadium location as a stage for AR material to be placed on top. The platform’s innovation is in scanning the environment to create an accurate digital twin from the resulting photogrammetry, bringing to life engaging content and experiences in real-world locations.
In this session, Nexus Head of XR and Interactive Arts, Luke Ritchie, will explore new ways the attractions industry can engage with their visitors via augmented reality.
Key Takeaways:
• A definition of “Enhanced Locations” in an attractions setting
• Examples of venues where “Enhanced Locations” can augment a user’s experience
• A solid knowledge of the creative and technical tools and techniques necessary to enable the future of augmented reality content
• Case study examples of 3D holographic content created for sporting events, that are vastly superior to what's come before in terms of quality, texture and therefore believability

Immersive, interactive projection environments are XR experiences that bridge the physical and digital worlds. Domes, panoramas, globes, and projection-mapped spaces provide a social, collaborative way to experience 360° content, solving some of the practical challenges of deploying XR at scale. In these group experiences audiences can collaborate and connect - whether with data, with brands, or with one another.

Drawing on more than a decade of The Elumenati’s projects with clients from NASA and NOAA to Dreamworks and Deloitte, this talk looks at XR use cases across entertainment, enterprise and education. In location-based entertainment, immersion and interactivity enable social interaction IRL, and bring a fun factor that draws crowds and builds lasting memories. Leveraging these technologies in live brand activations is a crucial element in building CX, creating the engagement that is key to experiential marketing strategies. And a rapidly evolving toolset for content creation enables cross-disciplinary connections in education and design, from research labs to executive briefing centers, and from virtual production to civil engineering. We’ll discuss best practices and lessons learned in implementing immersive XR across these verticals, and brainstorm ways to stay connected in a post-corona future.
