COVID 19 has exposed the lack of investment in frontline worker technology making manufacturing and service companies struggle to maintain operational readiness in the face of social distancing, travel restrictions, and an uncertain workforce. AI-based Connected Worker platforms provide the capabilities to address these challenges while providing the foundation for long term digital transformation of manufacturing and service workers. Listen to serial entrepreneur (ThingWorx, Lighthammer, Wonderware) Russ Fadel describe his vision for the future connected worker.

Too often, data that can improve worker productivity is lost because it is not delivered to the right person, at the right time, in the right way. This challenge becomes more acute as the amount of data and the speed of operations increase, placing increased stress on the worker. With a heads up display, businesses have the opportunity to provide information right in the worker's line of sight in simple, easy to understand, efficient ways that reduces stress while improving productivity, efficiency, and safety. In this session, Six15 Technologies will showcase how they are solving the data problem for essential workers from the military to the warehouse, and how HUD’s make their simpler and safer.

Predicting and immersing one with the future is always a challenge and a desire. The IEEE rises to that challenge based upon the work it does on multiple new and emerging technologies through serving as a catalyst for developing new innovations, products and services.
IEEE Future Directions serves as an incubator for these new initiatives. One of its focus areas, Digital Reality serves to explore and enable the coming Digital Transformation through collaboration among technologists, engineers, regulators, practitioners, and ethicists around the world. The Digital Transformation is fueled by advances in technology, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Quantum, and applications using the copious amounts of continuously generated data. By leveraging these technologies and others developed such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Digital Twins, the line between the physical world and the digital world will be increasingly less distinct, thus enabling an immersive intelligent digital world. Applications are already quickly emerging across the broad fields of education, manufacturing, medicine, entertainment, automotive, enabling the sharing of services, and more.
Emphasis will be upon presenting practical applications and its implementations of interest to attendees. Subject matter expert speakers will comment on current and past implementations.
11:50 AM - 12:10 PM
Stan Larroque will introduce and demo the Lynx R1, a new kind of standalone device for Mixed Reality.
12:20 PM - 12:40 PM
Augmented Reality has proven to show value within many critical enterprise verticals including manufacturing, architecture, engineering, construction, energy and utilities. Given the world’s current pandemic situation where there are travel restrictions and the increased need for remote work, remote assistance, training and reskilling of a workforce, it is now more important than ever for companies to have enterprise ready, easy to deploy digital solutions. Lenovo will discuss the current global situation and how customers are deploying solutions like remote assistance, guided workflows, and remote collaboration to improve productivity, reduce errors, and decrease service resolution times. Lenovo will announce a new ThinkReality solution that makes it easier than ever for enterprises to deploy these solutions at scale.

3D printing has been a gamechanger in many industries and makes the most impact where customization of products is combined with rapid turnaround and volume production. The Luxexcel 3D print technology is a unique technology that offers opportunities to integrate smart technology into prescription lenses and create the lenses of the future.
Smart eyewear has been identified as a the new revolution similar to the smartphone revolution of the past. 3D printing of lenses paves the way for creating smart eyewear in a form factor comparable to traditional eyewear and bridge the gap between technology and prescription eyewear.
By making use of the Luxexcel 3D printing technology for lenses, technology partners can create smart lenses and combine functions into one single lens. Think of lenses with special optical properties or integrated smart technology like a foil, display or waveguide. This results in smart glasses that look like regular glasses.

Corporations use a variety of ways to educate and train their employees. Online courses, videos and images can be scaled to reach a larger crowd, but they do not have the same impact or show the same results as in-person or on-site training methods. Companies spend lots of money and time on training to boost employees’ skill levels. Virtual training acts as an accelerator for real-life training, while also improving engagement and saving a ton of money. This talk is about sharing our experience and results from developing virtual training solutions.

How can we overcome the barriers between people and technology? How will engineers work in the future? And what new possibilities does Augmented Reality offer in prototyping, factory planning and quality control? Find out how the German AR player Holo-Light developed one of the most collaborative Mixed and Augmented Reality software suites to improve engineering workflows. The Augmented Reality Engineering Space ARES enables engineers to visualize, manipulate and share 3D CAD data - leading to shorter development cycles and seamless product designs. With Interactive Streaming for Augmented Reality ISAR the company also created a remote rendering solution to visualize high-polygon content via local or cloud processing power. In real size and time, with every detail, and without using polygon reducers. The software solution package is complemented by Stylus XR, an AR input device with Artificial Intelligence based tracking technology. Allowing engineers - for the first time ever - to perform submillimeter-accurate work, measurements and movements in a Mixed and Augmented Reality environment.

An enterprise-grade high-quality Mixed Reality (MR) requires both performance and scale. However, existing MR systems are severely limited in both aspects, thus severely restricting adoption and effectiveness of the medium. Enterprises are facing difficulty in computation with large 3D data sets at ultra-low latency; real-time collaboration and sharing across platforms; and complex 3D scene understanding in real-world environments. In this session you will learn how GridRaster uses its cloud-based (remote server based ) MR platform powered by distributed cloud architecture, ultra-low latency remote rendering and 3D vision-based AI to overcome these challenges and deliver high-performance MR at scale, specifically for aerospace & defense, automotive and telecommunication industry.
