AWE Talks: What are Top Enterprise AR Use Cases
Augmented Reality

Welcome back to AWE Talks, our series that plucks the greatest hits from the vast AWE conference archive. Fortunately, we now have a fresh batch of session footage from AWE USA 2021 to draw upon. And 2022's show will already be here in June.

For this week's talk, we spotlight Lenovo's perspective as an enterprise AR leader. Where is it seeing the greatest traction? What are its best practices for deploying AR? And what use cases are resonating most among its customers?

See the full video below along with quick-hit takeaways.

– Lenovo's Mattney Beck asserts that Covid-19 was a wake-up call for enterprises everywhere.
– Though the pandemic has rocked the world, the silver lining is in accelerated digital transformation.
– That has happened across the board with enterprise software adoption, including AR.
– But where has this wake-up call had the most impact? Some use cases shine brighter than others.
– Manufacturing aligns, given line-of-sight orientation and remote support (especially in a pandemic).
– This includes assembly, which requires weeks of onsite work and engineer travel to oversee production.
– With AR, Lenovo discovered that the latter could be done remotely, saving ample time and money.
– This was an internal implementation, but Lenovo has seen equal results with its customers.
– Other application areas include real-time remote support, maintenance, and quality assurance.
– As for best practices, there are advantages in existing enterprise sales relationships (as Lenovo has).
– There are also advantages in integrating AR with already-deployed technology (as Lenovo has).
– Because AR is so technologically unique, a full-stack approach also achieves tightly-integrated systems.
– But based on challenges in owning the entire stack, partners are often needed in enterprise AR.
– For Lenovo, that means providing its ThinkReality SDK for third parties to innovate on top of it.
– This signals an opening for AR app developers to adopt ThinkReality as a go-to-market springboard.
