For the past several months, DALL·E, a web-based image creation tool from OpenAI and MidJourney (both using gpt-3) have emerged as a topic of discussion for creatives. Both DALLE and MidJourney generate 2D artifacts. In her current research, Jasmine Roberts has expanded gpt-3 to create and modify 3D assets for use in augmented and virtual reality.
This is an effort to spark discussion of how we might set a course for better XR + AI model interactions. This talk is intended for those considering or in the process of implementing 3D generation systems. The principles given in this talk should lead to the development of more human-friendly tools and processes and mitigate fears surrounding displacement of creators. The audience will come away with some useful techniques to incorporate language models into their XR experiences.
12:55 - 13:45
The many facets of identity across digital and physical space come together in entirely new ways in mixed reality, and especially in new metaverse implementations. How can developers, policy makers and platforms work to strike a balance between privacy, safety and inclusion, and what unique issues does the metaverse present in this space? A panel of representatives from across the industry address this complex and important topic.
11:05 - 11:30
What does it mean that something is "real"? In this talk, Nils Pihl of Auki Labs explores how language itself is augmented reality technology, and how the human shamanic impulse and memetics can inform us about the future of AR as a medium, and why sharable AR is the penultimate step in human communication before direct neural interfaces.
Exploring the history and intersection of language, AR and shamanic traditions through the lens of memetics and behavioral psychology, Nils explores what it means for something to be "real" and what "augmenting reality" really means in the context of human interactions.

The Metaverse has pushed human creativity, interaction and expression past the realms of 20th century technology which boxed digital social interactions and content in 2D. Now, 3D self-representation can build experiences in which embodiment, presence and agency are enhancing human interaction in real-time. Meanwhile, avatars offer new ways for people to meet, create and collaborate in virtual environments – be that in the workplace or for entertainment.
Yet, for the Metaverse to truly come to life, hardware, software, and content need to rise in harmony with the infrastructure and architecture that support it. The defining products and experiences will come from collaborations and partnerships built on different technologies, disciplines, companies and experiences.
Pearly Chen and fellow panellists will explore how the ecosystem can come together to build spaces in which we can all create, express ideas and interact in this new world. Unpacking the latest in immersive technologies, panellists will address ways we can regain natural interactions in virtual worlds and unlock use cases that past generations of technology could not achieve. Authenticity will be at the heart of this discussion, with panellists sharing insights on why this must come first for us all, as the Metaverse pushes the boundaries of content and interaction.

Our model of the world doesn't match the reality of the world. This is why we often find the future mystifying, we struggle unnecessarily, and are continually surprised when disruption occurs.
And most importantly: No deep tech, Metaverse or other innovation will lead to a thriving future until we bring these two into alignment.
What if we learned to see the world differently?
In this inspiring and paradigm-shifting talk, Innovation Architect and Near Futurist Neil Redding shares how seeing the world through the lens of connected ecosystems is the critical unlock — for sustainable business growth into the emerging future, for solving Humanity's greatest challenges, and for building the new immersive worlds of our most visionary dreams.

The Metaverse is only a small subset of the overall digital realm and all the hype is clouding the real opportunity to rethink how we do everything. We have incredible technology at our fingertips, but we are just scratching the surface of its capabilities.
By changing the way we think about innovation, and leading with a proactive mindset, we can simulate entirely new constructs for products, services and business processes. Beyond that, we can think of individual technologies as ingredients in our overall recipe for change.
This change is coming either way. We can either sit back and watch it all unfold or we can become the driving force behind it. Which side do you prefer to be on?
