Daniel Wagner joined Snap in 2019 and is heading the software development of Snap’s Spectacles program in his role as Senior Director Software Engineering. Before joining Snap, Daniel was Chief Scientist and later CTO at Daqri, where he developed novel industrial Augmented Reality software and hardware.
Daniel is based in Vienna, Austria and has 24 years of industrial and academic experience in the field of Augmented Reality. He is well known for pioneering the research area of Augmented Reality on mobile phones. During his PhD study he developed the first 6DOF natural feature tracker running in real-time on smartphones. His seminal PhD thesis “Handheld Augmented Reality” laid the foundation for the advent of Augmented Reality on mobile phones. After his university career that led to the development of the Vuforia AR library, Daniel joined Qualcomm’s research team and continued his work on mobile phone Augmented Reality. Some of Daniel’s algorithms are implemented in hardware in every mid- and high-range Qualcomm chip today.
