Founder of the Interactive Media Division at USC, NASA Pioneer
Scott Fisher is a pioneering force in virtual and augmented reality whose career spans over four decades of technical innovation and immersive storytelling. As founding director of NASA Ames’ Virtual Environment Workstation Project (VIEW) in the 1980s, Fisher led the development of foundational VR technologies such as head-coupled displays, data gloves, and 3D audio that became the blueprint for modern XR systems.
He later co-founded Telepresence Research, advancing robotic VR, remote presence, and early augmented reality. At the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Fisher established the Interactive Media Division and now directs the Mobile & Environmental Media Lab, guiding research that blends immersive media with narrative and physical environments. His work continues to influence XR design by fusing technological depth with experiential creativity, shaping both the tools and the language of virtual experience.
