Richard Waltman is a full-stack software engineer at OpenBCI with over six years of experience developing cutting-edge applications in neuroscience, human-computer interaction, and interactive media. Specializing in brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), he works with non-invasive EEG data processing, spatial computing, and multi-user BCI installations to create innovative and accessible technology solutions.

Richard's professional interests include emotion recognition, algorithmic music composition, and real-time physiological data processing. He has developed multi-sensory experiences involving AR/VR, integrating software with neurotechnology to push the boundaries of interactive systems. His passion for bridging technology and human experience drives his contributions to research and development in BCIs and beyond.

Richard’s work at OpenBCI has been featured by TED, Apple, Intel, and CNN. During his tenure, OpenBCI has won multiple awards for its products and research, including the CES Innovation Award and the AWE Auggie Award. He also regularly supports hackathons and student projects, helping to foster innovation and mentorship in the next generation of engineers.

In addition to his engineering work, Richard has lectured on BCIs and spatial computing and is committed to advancing math and science education.

Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf, coaching soccer, tackling difficult video games, and exploring new activities and cuisines.
