Centrica is an international energy and services provider with 26Million customer accounts globally and 12,000 field based engineers.
As Centrica transitions from a traditional utility provider to a technology driven energy and services company, it has already begun to harness the power of Cloud and AI services to aid in this transition.
For Centrica to continuously satisfy the changing needs of its customers, they are proactively looking at new innovative technologies; amongst these Centrica recognised that eXtended Reality or Immersive Technologies could further accelerate this transition specifically in the areas of operational excellence, customer service, learning and development, engineer safety and overall cost efficiencies. To test this, over the past two years Centrica has started trialling various eXtended Reality initiatives across different parts of the organisation, such as:
• Rolling out world’s first integrated loyalty marketing campaign using webAR
• Virtual Reality to immersively convey company’s strategy and roadmap
• Remote assist and collaboration between experts and customers turning customers into digital engineers using mobile webAR
• Mobile AR product placement to allow customers to try and customise Centrica’s smart HIVE products before buying.
• Microsoft Mixed Reality platform and HoloLens for immersive learning, step by step instructions, hand’s free remote assistance between experts and field engineers and virtual collaboration experiences amongst distributed functions and experts.

The real world and the digital world are merging. AR/VR technologies are reshaping the way we communicate and interact with each other. They're also changing the way we represent ourselves - our virtual identities. Due to the emergence of AR/VR, the next computing platform will be driven by expressive virtual avatars that mirror the fidelity of real-life interactions, enabling true telepresence, where people could meet, play games, work, and basically do anything with people anywhere in the world. In this talk, Kaspar will talk about how personal avatars are being used in different industries today (from VR meeting, gaming to fashion) and what are the issues and opportunities we have.

Ori Inbar, Co-founder and Executive Director of AWE and Super Ventures will kick off the 4th AWE EU with a special welcome address and his annual state of the industry.
For 50 years, computing has been a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional world.
Now, tech giants and thousands of startups who are seeking growth opportunities beyond mobile have set spatial computing on a trajectory for exponential growth. Most large corporations are adopting spatial computing to improve their businesses driven by strong evidence it delivers measurable ROI, and consumers begin to appreciate the radical benefits of this technology which could signal the next dimension of humanity. In 2019, everyone must enter the next dimension to understand the impact it’s bound to have on their lives and businesses.

At the 18th of October at last years at AWE EU in Munich, Open AR Cloud (OARC) officially launched and started taking on founding members and partners. We reached more than 240 members and 36 partners by November 1st. This AWE, Jan-Erik Vinje, the managing director of OARC will present what the OARC community has achieved together the last year, what the working groups are currently focusing on and what are the major upcoming initiatives from the organization.
There will be updates on the State of The AR Cloud report, on OARC's ongoing initiative to create a universal standard for the geospatial position and orientation of real and digital objects (GeoPose). OARC believes GeoPose could be as important to the spatial computing era as the URL has been for the web era.
Importantly OARC will also present the pioneering work they have done together with the XR Safety Initiative that OARC announced a strategic partnership with at the May 28th AR Cloud Symposium in Santa Clara.
09:30 - 10:00
AR/VR provides a natural opportunity for engaging museum visitors with authentic science content by turning a museum exhibit into a compelling canvas for immersive experiences.
The session will provide a deep dive into the American Museum of Natural History’s HMD and mobile AR projects, including recently launched AR feature of the Museum’s app as well as a multiplayer VR experience in the gallery that features scientific research on extinct animals.
Exploring the recently implemented examples, this talk will take you through the process of designing and prototyping AR/VR experiences to add a digital layer and dynamic focus to current exhibits.
17:30 - 18:00
Spatial was founded by two TED Fellows to transform how people across the world work together . It was recently featured in two keynotes by Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. This talk will explain how Spatial grew out of its founders' previous startup (sold to Google) and work at the MIT Media Lab, into a solution that Forbes describes as "extraordinary" and "disruptive." It will focus on the underlying design principles behind Spatial, the features of the current solution, and our vision of the near future of AR collaboration.
16:00 - 17:00
Imagine an AR world on top of our current world where every time you raise your phone you see AR experiences all around you. Now, imagine the possibilities that come as a creator. Whether your goal is to build digital product demos or virtual pop-up shops, Facebook's AR toolset gives you everything you need to build the immersive experience of your dreams. The perception that creating AR experiences can be onerous is misleading. In reality, it has never been easier to get started.
In this session, Davide La Sala, will walk attendees through the skillset, challenges, and best practices involved in the creation of your first Spark AR effect. The session will cover technical details along with helpful tips while demonstrating the workflow of a Spark AR effect from beginning to end. Attendees will leave this workshop ready to hit the ground running - one-step closer to creating, publishing and distributing AR experiences to the Facebook and Instagram platforms' 1.5 billion daily users.

13:00 - 14:00
Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) systems are designed to immerse humans into rich and compelling simulated environments by leveraging our perceptual systems (i.e. vision, touch, sound). In turn, exposure to AR/VR can reshape and alter our perceptual processing by tapping into the brain’s significant ability to adapt to changes in the environment through neural plasticity. Therefore, to design successful AR/VR systems, we must first understand the functioning and limitations of our perceptual and cognitive systems. We can then tailor AR/VR technology to optimally stimulate our senses and maximize user experience. Understanding how to wield AR/VR tools to reshape how we perceive the world also has incredible potential for societal and clinical applications.
By attending this tutorial, attendees will learn how to employ our current understanding of human perception to design more sophisticated and ecological AR/VR systems that optimize user experience and minimize or even eliminate the undesired side effects.
10:00 - 11:00
Futuristically imagining Augmented Reality in our daily lives, what could help us understand how it will affect our thinking?
We can learn a lot about neuroscience, psychology and observing phenomenons that came with the use of the internet, mobile devices, desktop computers.
Combining the scientific observations with future scenarios and an understanding of UX & interaction design, we will be able to envision a number of potentially mind-blowing changes.
